B/O Sarmiento de Gamboa

The Research Vessel (R/V) Sarmiento de Gamboa is a multidisciplinary research vessel non-polar global level. Instrumentation and laboratories with which account allow you to investigate the resources and natural hazards, global change, marine resources, global ocean circulation and marine biodiversity. The research is done it is mainly directed and financed by the National R+D+i.

It also has the most advanced technologies in terms of navigation systems (eg dynamic positioning) and is the first Spanish oceanographic vessel that can work with ROVs (Remote Operated Vehicle) high depths and with AUVs (Autonomous Underwater Vehicle).

The R/V Sarmiento de Gamboa belongs to the CSIC and is based in Vigo where it was launched in 2006. The Marine Technology Unit (UTM) CSIC is responsible for managing the ship and the maintenance of scientific equipment and provides the technical personnel for conducting oceanographic campaigns.
